One Night in Harlem

Matthias and I went to Harlem the other night, to pick up Kincsem from his fencing class. The train ride with 3 switches was quite easy – in Union Square we got to listen to Alice Tan Ridley’s  own version of Billie Jean – I so regret I didn’t videotape her dancing with Matthias… It was fun to be back in Harlem at this time of the year, compared to February – so different, so much greener and more lively than I had remembered. Matthias loved playing at the playground nearby, ignored completely the adults hanging around (most of them looked quite professional, like this was their day job) , going up and down the slides, climbing up the steps and running around in the area. He was speechless once he saw his father all dressed up in his white fencing jacket, with a fencing mask and an epee, watching the training session, mesmerized and at the same time intrigued. We ended the evening with a Harlem Burger King visit (you’d think all Burger Kings look the same, well, think again) and a McDonalds icecream, making it back home way past bedtime.
